Colic Babies Extreme Fussiness Crying Pain Colicy Baby Help

I just joined this group and wanted to see if I could help some of the moms and dads struggling day and night with fussiness, craziness, crying, screaming and just overall insaneness. My wife and I have a 7 month old and she is very colic. We are fortunate enough to work from home and crazy enough we have been with our little one everyday since she was born. We have spent countless hours, days and months experimenting with the best remedies to get us through the tough colic times. You may have tried one or many of these things but we have really tried to narrow down the many things that will help relieve the pain, uncomfortable days and nights, crankiness, crying and screaming. Follow these steps, try each or all throughout the day or week. I guarantee you will atleast see a slight improvement. It takes time and patience but go down this list and try these to the best of your ability.

1. We propped the crib mattress up on one side not real high but enough to tilt her up slightly. Colic babies can have a lot of acid reflux and laying flat can cause a lot of issues with acid burning their throat.

2. Believe it or not some babies experience teething very very early and it's painful. Get yourself some teething gel to rub on their gums. Don't use orajel though. Online you can find teething gel that is for babies. You will have to use it several times a day. Rub in on their gums with your finger and also apply some around the pacifier. Also for teething, you can use a small amount of infants tylenol and motrin. It will make them sleepy but it does really help their pain. Also before bedtime get a little infant tooth brush. No they may not have teeth just yet but get some infant toothpaste and massage their gums with the toothbrush, it will help the pain in their gums.

3. Check your formula. Some babies don't tolerate milk very well. We are on nutramogen. Now some formulas don't work for different babies. But it's ok to test a different brand out. You don't want to switch more than twice. They may not be working well with the formula.

4. Bad gas, Get the little remedies gas drops. It's at walmart and target. It's very helpful and some babies have bad bubbles and gas in their stomach. And it can be very painful.

5. Get natural baby calming tablets. They dissolve in the bottle and will help sooth your baby. We buy Nuby Soothing tablets. You want to sooth and calm them in the evening.

6. For bedtime get a noise machine or white noise maker, you can even put music on very low. Soft music can help some babies at night. Either white noise or soft music or both.

7. You can get a warm tummy wrap. It's a small wrap that has velcro and you warm it in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds. Put around tummy and it will help their tummy pain.

8. Get a night light that beams on the ceiling. It can be a rotating stars one or anything soft white. It also helps soothe them.

9. Colic babies (not all) but some like it to be nice and cool in their room. We keep our temperature between 70 and 74 at night and its calming to them.

10. At night when it's wind down time put something on the TV that has colors and easy to watch. When ours was 1-3 months old she really enjoyed puppets, muppets, fraggles and sesame street. Something not overpowering but easy to watch. Keep the volume low and hold your baby with TV in background.

11. You can include some gripe water throughout the day. It doesn't always work but it's good to have handy. Don't use gripe water much at night it will keep them awake, it's very sweet.

12. Have as best of schedule as you can. We prep for night time. You can give your baby a bath to calm them down. If theyre very young they will most likely hate the bath but afterwards it will help to calm them.

Here's some last resort and if it's unbearable:

13. You can put about 5-6 drops of liquid melatonin in their bottle with their formula. And yes it's perfectly safe our daughter did just fine but don't over do it. It will help to calm them and give them some peace and rest.

14. If they are screaming uncontrollably you can run a bath in the tub and you and baby can take a bath. Make sure to hold them with you in tub. It's very soothing to them.
15. Have a couple bottles filled and ready next to the bed. Moms, you can then get up and have a bottle right there ready to feed.

16. Have a kit put together and handy with all of your teething gel, infant tylenol, calming tablets, gas drops, etc. Have a travel one, have a home one. Over prep yourself for the worst hoping for the best.

We are constantly working on more remedies and will update as we include more. I hope one or more of these or even all of them help those out there. Routine is a good thing for your baby. Keep going and you will get through it. Every 3 months will be a very slight improvement. Best Wishes to everyone.I've attached a pic of one of our cabinets with our full kit of everything for a colic child.
Lastly I can guarantee that if your child is in pain, crying, fussing, upset, etc throughout the day or night there is definitely a reason, whether it's gas, gums hurt from teething, acid reflux, hungry or whatever it may be rotate all these methods and see what gives you even the slightest bit of improvement.
